Medibank CEO Craig Drummond has called on Australian business leaders to “get with the program”, saying pay equity and flexible working practices are essential to attracting and retaining the best workforce.
Mr Drummond, a Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Pay Equity Ambassador and Male Champion of Change, says Medibank’s success in recruiting and developing leading talent is in part due to its ongoing commitment to pay equity.
“Pay equity is about fairness, and it’s the right thing to do by people. Medibank undertakes regular analysis, ensuring any potential pay equity issues are addressed,” he said.
Medibank analyses pay equity in its organisation by comparing all people, both women and men, against benchmarked external market rates of pay for all internal roles.
Medibank is a 2018 WGEA ‘Employer of Choice for Gender Equality’ and was recently recognised as ‘Australia’s number one workplace for dads’, after introducing a leading parental leave policy. The policy provides 14 weeks of paid leave within the first 24 months to all eligible parents, regardless of whether they are the primary or secondary carer.
Mr Drummond is part of a network of business leaders committed to pay equity. These ambassadors ensure their organisations analyse gender pay gaps, and take action and communicate the results to their employees.
