Workplace Gender Equality Citation

employer of choice for gender equality and employer committed to gender equality logos with WGEA tick

The Workplace Gender Equality Citation recognises employers taking meaningful action and achieving progress towards workplace gender equality, while providing a framework to support continued progress.

Whether your organisation is at the beginning of its gender equality journey or achieving leading practice outcomes, WGEA's Citation program offers a pathway to recognise and celebrate progress.

Open to all Australian employers who report to WGEA and are compliant with the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012, the Citation is awarded to successful applicants for a period of 3 years.

Two pathways to Citation recognition

The Workplace Gender Equality Citation has 2 categories of recognition:

Employer of Choice for Gender Equality

Employer of Choice for Gender Equality Citation employers show outstanding capability and achievement in key areas that influence workplace gender equality.

These employers:

  • have gender-balance in their senior roles (executive team and governing body/Board)

  • keep their gender pay gap within the target range of ±5% or below the industry mid-point

  • support gender-equal outcomes through policy and practices such as men taking parental leave and reducing gender segregation in jobs and occupations.

Employer Committed to Gender Equality

Employer Committed to Gender Equality Citation employers are building strong systems and making steady progress.

These employers:

  • have developed systems and leadership frameworks to drive real change - backed by clear policies and data informed, continuous improvement strategies

  • regularly check their gender equality data and create effective Action Plans

  • provide education and support that drive gender-equal experiences in the workplace.

Across both categories, Citation holders demonstrate strong gender-equal outcomes at the moments that matter across the employee lifecycle. They go beyond policy by using evidence, employee experience insights, evidence-informed actions and committing to targets to strengthen safety, fairness and opportunity in their organisation.

Recognition may be closer than you think

Citation recognises both progress and achievement for employers as they strengthen workplace gender equality.

The Employer Committed to Gender Equality Citation provides a pathway to recognition for employers that have strong systems in place and are making purposeful progress towards workplace gender equality.

Your organisation may already be meeting more of the Citation requirements than you expect. Review the Citation Standards to understand where your organisation is now and which recognition pathway may be right for you.
