How to apply for the Workplace Gender Equality Citation 2026 - 2028

Existing citation-holders

Applications for the Workplace Gender Equality Citation 2026-28 are now open to existing Employer of Choice for Gender Equality Citation-holders.

WGEA’s Workplace Gender Equality Citation sends a powerful message to employees, stakeholders and the community that your organisation prioritises gender equality. WGEA encourages all existing citation-holders to reapply.

If your workplace already has a EOCGE citation, you will need to re-apply by Friday 28 November 2025 by completing the following steps.

Step 1: Check the Standards and determine your category

Read the 2025 Workplace Gender Equality Citation Standards to see what your workplace needs to do to qualify. There are 2 categories of citation, so choose the one that fits best.

You can also use the Citation Guide to help you with the process

Not meeting all the Standards yet?

That’s okay. WGEA understands that some workplaces might need more time to meet all the new requirements. There are transition provisions to help with this – see the section titled Transition Provisions

Step 2: Complete the application package

Once you know which category of citation you’re applying for, complete the corresponding application package.

Download the Employer Committed to Gender Equality application package.

Step 3: Send in your application

After you’ve filled out the application and had your CEO sign it, email it to wgecitation@wgea.gov.au. Use the subject line:

'Citation Application – [Your workplace name]'.

🗓️Deadline: Friday 28 November 2025.

Step 4: Pay the fee

The cost for the application process and 3-year citation program is $8,000 (including GST). Organisations can pay in full at the time of application, or in instalments over the 3 years.

Further information on payment processes will be provided on application.

Transition principles

View the requirements for existing citation-holders

Applicants are expected to demonstrate they meet the new Workplace Gender Equality Citation Standards as far as possible.

If existing Citation-holders are not able to meet all the new Standards for the 2025 application cycle at the time of application the following standards will apply.

  • Applicants can be assessed on the 3 previous citation employee experience questions, sample size and responses for the first application only.
  • If any of the remaining standards at time of application are unable to be met (including the self-assessment standards), applicants will be required to submit a (no more than 3 page) plan for how and when the standard/s will be met by the end of the first citation period (3 years).
  • For corporate groups with multiple Designated Relevant Employers (DREs), this plan needs to be for DRE which does not meet the Standards.
  • All subsequent applications will need to meet all the new citation requirements, including the policy and education standards, the continuous improvement standards, and the employee experience response rate and response thresholds.

WGEA will support existing citation holders to build the capability and practices that they may need to bridge any gaps in achievement across the Citation Standards.
