WGEA’s Target Selection Guide outlines the key steps employers can take to select gender equality targets that drive real change in their workplace.

From 2026, employers that directly employ 500 or more need to select and meet gender equality targets.

Targets help workplaces to move from good intention to action. The benefits include increased access to the external talent pool, more effective recruitment, retention, and employee engagement.

Success comes less from the number, and more from the planning and actions employers take to select and then implement targets.

This guide will help you confidently select targets from the menu that are

  • realistic and achievable

  • meaningful for your workplace

  • likely to generate positive change

  • supported by your employees, board and stakeholders.

Even if you're not required to select targets under the Workplace Gender Equality Act, any employer can use this process to improve gender equality.
