2025 private sector Gender Equality Reporting experience survey results

Each year WGEA surveys employers about their experience with reporting workplace gender equality information to WGEA. This includes the support available from the Agency as well as the processes and systems they use to send the agency information. This helps WGEA to improve reporting for employers in future years and looks at the results by employer size and reporting experience level.

The results from the 2025 Private Sector Reporting Experience Survey are in:

Key findings:

  • Employers reported greater confidence in their understanding of their compliance obligations, with 92% saying they were confident in this aspect of reporting. In 2024 WGEA published a new  Compliance Strategy and clearly communicated the reporting requirements with links in our Reporting Guide.

  • Satisfaction with the Reporting Guide has increased to 62%, up from 44% in 2024. This follows extensive work by WGEA to streamline the guide and add clear expectations and examples of compliance, with more improvements to come.

  • Employers were generally satisfied with WGEA’s support: 84% found deadlines clearly communicated; 74% found emails easy to understand and 59% of those who requested assistance said they were happy with the support overall. Throughout the year, WGEA reviewed all employer emails, making changes to improve comprehension. We also ensured deadlines for compliance were clear in our Reporting Guide and Compliance Strategy.

  • More than half of the reporting employers 52-60%  were satisfied with WGEA’s reporting platform and WGEA is continuing to make improvements that will make the process of reporting easier.

The survey also identified areas for improvement including challenges with data anomalies and uploads, response times for individual support including self-service options and targeted support for first time reporters and the usability of the Workplace Profile template.

This year WGEA requested the time employers took to report their information to the Agency. On average, reports took 41 hours to prepare and lodge over a 2-4 week period. We will continue to look for ways to streamline the reporting process in future and understand how the improvements we make are helping employers.

We’re encouraged by the progress made and remain committed to making the reporting process more efficient, accessible, and supportive for all employers. This feedback, in addition to direct feedback from employers continues to shape our priorities and improvements.

The 25 survey was open to all employers who lodged reports by 31 August 2025. In total WGEA received 1,325 responses, with a slight over-representation of first-time reporters.
